He leads the City of Melbourne Council and represents the city in official and public matters. Before becoming Lord Mayor, he was Deputy Lord Mayor and a city councillor. Earlier in his career, he worked as a political adviser, university executive, media commentator, and charity leader. His background combines politics, public policy, academia, and community work.
